2014 Goals & 2013 Year review

It's that time again. Time to review the past year and time to set some new goals for 2014. This year the 4 kids in total grew 10", gained 34 lbs and only went up 4 shoe sizes.

Rebecca

Favorites: Preschool, baby dolls, Doc McStuffin, writing & drawing.

Stats: 3'3", 31 lbs
Shoe size 8

Goals:
Learn how to cook (in the oven)
Improving my reading
Start Kindergarten

This past year Rebecca grew 3", gained 3 lbs and went up 2 shoe sizes. She reached all of her goals this past year! She knows many new Spanish words and loves to talk to us in Spanish during the day. She learned how to swing in September and it was awesome for all of us. She can write all of her letters, numbers and lots of shapes. She can write names and some words on her own. She can read a few easy books and feels so proud of her reading skills.

Ammon
Favorites: Legos, reading, football, baseball, soccer, basketball, staying up late and sleeping in, science.                                                 4'4.5"
53.4 lbs
Shoe size 2

Goals:
Learn to ride my ripstick
Earn my Black Belt
Earn my Wolf rank in Boy Scouts
Learning to better control my anger

Favorites: Minecraft on the tablet, reading, Patriotic songs (singing & playing on the piano), science & P.E..

In 2013 Ammon grew 2" and put on 7.5 lbs. and went up 1 shoe size. Ammon read 2 1/2 Harry Potter Books. Then he moved onto R.A. Salvatore books like Simeon. Because we skipped a promotion in 2013 he ended the year with his 2nd black tip. He learned to do the media group of kicks. He gives the  best huge jumping hugs to dad and cuddles with mom.

Corrine
Favorites: Running, writing, swimming, neon green, Cosmo & horses.

4'11"
82.8 lbs
Shoe size 6

Goals:
Read the entire Book of Mormom (with Mom)
Strength my foot, so I can start running again
Journal every Sunday
Be kinder to my brothers

In 2013 Corrine grew 3", gained 12 lbs and her feet stayed the same size. She became a rock star swimmer, passing 2 swim lesson levels on the 1st try. She improved her reading, but it's still a struggle and she continues to work on it. She's still trying to find her favorite type of books to read. She worked hard on keeping her bed cleaner. It was cleaner then the year before, but wasn't consistently clean. Many times this year she would do a major bed clean up making it look so nice.

Simeon
Favorites: Science, Sports (football, baseball) & video games (Skyrim & Minecraft)

5'0"
82 lbs
Shoe size 7

Goals:

Favorites:

In 2013 Simeon grew 2", gained 11.4 lbs and went up 1 shoe size. Simeon didn't reach his goal of becoming a Life Scout, but did end the year as a Star Scout. He's working on getting his Life Scout rank in 2014. Due to his hip problems he wasn't able to accomplish either of his baseball goals. Because Simeon read alot on his NOOK, it's hard to really know how many pages he read this year. He was always reading a different book, so he probably did meet his page count goal.

Kari

Goals:
Be more patient
Connect-with family better through cards & learning about them. Get Christmas & school albums up to date.
Simplify-less stuff, more organized house, less activities, more relaxation
Appreciate-take care of what we have, learn to live with what we have, or live without!
Strengthen my stomach muscles (and lose a few pounds there) so I can help my back be stronger and feel better.

2013 wasn't my best year. I did exceed one of my goals and that was in regards to photography. I had almost 10 photography jobs and actually got paid to do them. I loved it! I got our 2012 Project Life album pictures in the album, but I still need to do some journaling. I didn't even begin to get the kids school albums or Christmas albums updated. That's a goal I'll have again this year. Staying on budget is a very hard thing for me, and in 2014 that is a major goal of mine. Exercising came in spurts for me this year. I had no injuries this year which was a big improvement from the previous year. Laundry is a never ending project that I really need to figure a better system for. Like maybe the kids doing their own laundry! I felt like this year I had alot more individual time with each of the kids. Ammon and I get time twice a week going to Taekwondo alone to talk and I look forward to that time so much. I've been able to take kids out on one on one activities and spend time really talking with them and getting to know each other better.

Johann
Exercise more

Family Goals
Connect, Simplify, & Appreciate.
More regular Family Home Evenings
Smiles, laughter, fun, memories

This summer we spent an entire week in Northern Minnesota camping as a family and it was awesome!! We had more Family Home Evenings in 2013 then in years past. It still wasn't weekly, but it was at least 2 times a month. I felt like we got good schedules in place that would last a few months, then activities would change and we'd have to find a new schedule. I feel like we were better able to say no to more things then in years past and that we had more unscheduled time then in years past.

Stars for a Skylander

Ammon is so full of life that he struggles to settle down and go to bed. We were needing to help him learn to settle down and sleep better, so the star chart was born.

Everyday he could earn up to 5 stars.
1 for getting ready for bed (getting pj's on & brushing teeth).
1 for getting into bed and happily saying his prayer.
1 for staying in bed all night. Which means no reading after lights out, getting up and no talking with Simeon.
1 for getting up in the morning quickly and happily.
If he gets all 4 stars then he earns a BONUS star for the day.

It took him 4 full weeks to earn his 100 stars. Week 3 he figured it out and earned EVERY star he could that week!!! Week 4 wasn't a perfect week, but he still did good.

His prize he wanted to earn-a Skylander Gaint. He decided on getting Swarm and earning another 100 stars for another Skylander.

Ammon has made some very good habits this past month and it has helped not only him be happier since he's getting better sleep, but has also helped our family be happier and calmer.

2013 Goals

It's January 1st, so it's time to document where the kids are now and set some new goals for 2013. We also included a review of our 2012 goals, so we know how we each did and where we need to continue to work.

                  Rebecca
Favorites: Baby dolls and cooking food in play kitchen
Stats: 27.8 lbs, 3'0" Shoe size 6

Goals
Learn more words in Spanish
Brush my teeth by myself
Moms goal for Rebecca-
Learn to write all the alphabet letters
Start to learn how to read
Learn to swing on her own

2012 Review
Rebecca grew 3", put on 3.5 lbs and went up 1 shoe size. Looking back at last years goals-she knows almost all her letters and can tell us what letter words start with, and even write a few words. She became quicker on her Strider bike, but still doesn't like to lift her feet using it.

                         Ammon
Favorites: Legos, riding his bike, hunting
Stats: 46 lbs, 4'2"
Shoe size 1

Goals
Read 5 Harry Potter Books
Earn my Temporary Black Belt or Black Belt
Learn to do a Media kick

2012 Review
Ammon grew 3", put on 3.5 lbs and went up one shoe size. He read many Magic Tree House books, but tired of them, so he moved onto other books. He learned to make scrambled eggs, and is still working on getting dressed quickly without getting distracted.

               Corrine

Favorites: Horses, running, Horse Lego's, softball
Stats: 70.6 lbs, 4'8" Shoe size 6 (kids)

Goals
Become a better swimmer
Improve my reading
Keep my bed cleaner

2012 Review
Corrine grew so much in 2012! She grew 3", gained 10 lbs and went up 3 shoe sizes! Corrine started to get into reading, and read the 10 books she wanted to read, but not all were Junie B Jones. She's working on strategies to help with her spelling and it's improving. She ran a 5k in 27 mintues. So close to her 25 min 5k goal. She is still working on stopping to suck her thumb at home.

             Simeon
Favorites: Reading, sports-archery, baseball, play Skyrim
Stats: 70.6 lbs, 4'10" Shoe size 6 (kids)

Goals
Become a Life Scout
Hit the ball into the outfit minimum 20 times
Pitch 3 games in baseball
Read 5,000 book pages

2012 Review
He grew 2 1/4", gained 4.5 lbs, and went up 1.5 shoe sizes. He blew his goal to read 10 books out of the water! Gained the 4 pounds to get to 70 lbs, learned to cook a few more things, and wants to help in the kitchen more. He earned his Faith in God Award (and his Arrow of Light). He's trying to get along better with his siblings, but it's still a work in progress.

                      Kari

Goals
Stay to the budget
Exercise more
Spend more individual time with the kids
Stay on top of laundry better
Take pictures for 3 other families
Get 2012 Project Life album done
Update kids school albums & Christmas Album

2012 review- 3 of my goals dealt with physical activity and becoming healthier. 2012 was a hard year physically for me with injuries to my ankle, wrist and hip/back, so I sadly didn't meet any of those goals. I am feeling blessed to be able to walk and stand up and have energy to take care of my family so I'm alright with not making any of those goals. I got my recipe book organized better, but it still needs to work. I felt like I kept the house cleaner, especially the kitchen cleaned this year, even with our dishwasher not working for a few months. I kept in better touch with family and got cards or presents to everyone until the last few months of the year. I felt more positive in some aspects and not as positive in others. Many of my 2012 goals are still a work in progress.

Goals
will add later

2012 review- Johann did good with visiting the YM. We sent out Christmas cards to his clients rather then birthday cards. The physical and healthy goals were also hard for him this year.

                            Family

Goals
Go on a week camping trip this summer
Family Home Evening weekly
Calmer/less busy year of activities

2012 Review
We started out strong with family prayer, but life got busy and we didn't keep it up. We have made it a point though to have individual prayer with each of the kids every night. That has been a very neat experience to hear the kids prayers and to help them to say more meaningful prayers. We started reading the Book of Mormon, but stopped pretty fast. We need to figure out a better system to keep us reading it. I feel like this was our most stressful, busy, crazy year. We got some good systems going, and then schedules changed. This will forever be a work in progress as the kids get older and activities increase and change.
